Socialization in South Wales
An article published on Tuesday January 30, 2012 was about a man living in Clos Penpant named Lee Edward Griffiths who stabbed his mother eight times in the chest, thigh, and stomach. On July 17, 2011 Linda and Lee spent the evening together at home. Later that night at around 12 am she woke up to the horrifying pain and sight of her son standing over her with a bloody knife. Linda Elaine was able to take the knife from Lee and escape to a neighbor’s house. After the police arrived, Lee told arresting officers that he heard voices in his head telling him to hurt people. Edward plead guilty to stabbing his mother at the hearing that took place at Swansea Crown Court. The prosecutors told the court Lee had mental health problems for years and an interest in knives. Several slashes were found on the victim’s upper body and thigh which caused her lungs to collapse. After hearing that Lee told officials he could not resist the voices in his head a psychiatrist concluded Lee Edward Griffiths is a paranoid schizophrenic. Edward has a very mentally unstable personality. Lee plead not guilty to attempted murder which the prosecuting side accepted. The unlawful actions Lee demonstrated that night are considered inappropriate in most societies. Stabbing other people goes against the social mores established within a society. Edward was transported to a psychiatric hospital, which is a total institution, called Caswell Clinic in an effort to start the desocializtion process.
