The
article “Father: ‘My kid made a mistake’ in school” by Gene Johnson and Manuel
Valdes published February 23, 2012 under Yahoo news. Informs the public about a
9-year old boy who is currently accused of shooting an 8-year-old girl, who is
critically wounded in the hospital after she was shot with a .45 caliber
handgun. According to the article, under the state law, children between the
ages of 8 and 12 years old are already capable of facing charges if, a court
makes such a determination. The boy, who is under the legal custody of his
uncle Patrick Cochran, was just bailed out on Thursday with an amount of
$50,000. While it is being determined if the boy should be incarcerated and
placed in a juvenile division. However, according to the article, “Todd Dowell
of the Kitsap County prosecutor's juvenile division said his office had enough
information to charge the boy on Thursday. However, he will not be arraigned
until the court determines if the boy has the capacity to understand what he
did was wrong.” Meaning that the court has to first determine if the kid had a
full understanding of the damages he had cause while, committing such
crime.
