Isolated Twins
In December of 2010, two twin girls around the age of two were found isolated in a bed room in their mother’s (Elisabeth C. Crossely) house. It was reported by police officers that they were found covered in bruises, burns, and infected cuts. “It appeared she had been whipped on her back several times with an object, leaving distinct uniform bruises about a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch wide and about one inch long,” a police report said. It was also stated by a bystander that the girls were kept in that room without blankets, or bedding. The two girls were reportedly found without clothing, “lying faced down on dirty carpets with garbage”. Police later discovered that the walls were smeared with “fecal matter and the carpet soaked with human waste“. A police officer was so shocked he stated this, “As soon as I stepped into the room, I was overwhelmed by a choking-feces and strong ammonia-and-urine odors, I was unable to breathe and began retching.”
Elisabeth C. Crossley was arrested and charged with two counts of felony injury to a child and Ruth K. Cassidy, grandmother of these children was arrested as well. Apparently, Cassidy had been living with them for quite some time, enough time to tell the police that the girls had been without a bed for about six months to a years. She also stated the different injuries on the twins helped Crossley identify them.
These girls were obviously keep from socialization, it was reported by a neighbor that they “never saw those kids outside. It was like they were locked up,” . In addition, the twins have lost a sense of personality, they were kept in a confined room for so long they cannot create their own attitudes, beliefs, or behaviors other than fear.
