A taste of our History

As the big inauguration celebration comes to an end at the Mount, I couldn't help but relate the ideas of chapter nine to our school. Mount St. Mary's College was founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph because they wanted to break the chains of minorities. Since women were not seen as an equal to men, especially in education, the CSJ's gave women the opportunity to be liberated with education. They also recognized ethnic minority by embracing them rather than opposing it. Since both campus surround the Los Angeles area, there are different cultures, religions and races, our school is a mini melting pot of the L.A area. The amazing women of Mount St. Mary's College, whether is be the professors, staff, or students have broke the stereotypes and made a new platform for women.

The CSJ's of the Mount completed their self- fulfilling prophecy of making the first small building of women into a college that creates the leaders of tomorrow.
