Work Too Much? Then You Are at Risk!

If you work more than 11 hours a day then you are at a greater risk of becoming depressed, according to a report published on the online journal Plos One on January 25.
In a study conducted by researchers from Finnish and Institute of Occupational Health and from University College in London, 2,000 government workers in Britain, all middle- aged, were followed and it was found that there was a link between working overtime and depression.
"The study was adjusted for other variables, such as socioeconomic backgrounds, lifestyle and other work-related factors."

However, some authors say that the results would have been completely different if younger people were in the study.
Nonetheless, most middle-aged people agree with the study like Bruce, a lawyer from New Jersey. He mentions in the article that the study “makes a lot of sense.” He goes on to say that the pressure of working many hours sometimes made him question his own mental health.
The information presented in this article relates to Chapter 2: Social Research. The independent variable in the study conducted by the researcher was the overtime put by the workers. The dependent variable in the study was whether there was a change in the person’s attitude because of the independent variable. And it turned out that there was, working overtime caused people to become more susceptible to depression.
