The Los Angeles Times article
explains the life of a famous bodybuilder named Sandra Bueckert. Sandra is a 45
year old mother and has two kids, she is known as one of the best personal
trainers. Her body is extremely muscular and she is extremely ripped. Majority
of the people love and appreciate her look, however others don’t. The article
explains how in the past years body builder competitors have been asked to take
steroids in order for them to be more “fit”. Of course, some decided to do it
to stay in the competition. Unlike Sandra, she decided not to take steroids
when she was competing in the national level. Sandra explains that she left the
competition because she wanted to have kids. The importance of functionalism in her life was putting
her family first. The conflict theory
between the body builders is that some competitors starve themselves and don’t have
enough fat to have their menstrual cycle. The power that the judges and the body builders competitors have over
them affect them physically and mentally. There is no reason why the women
competitors have to stop having their menstrual cycle because their taking
steroids, the importance of them having the best abs or body includes them
being in a perfect health condition. One of the messages that I think this
article is sending out, is that there is no reason why women have to starve
themselves to feel beautiful. All women are amazing in their own way; the media
should have no influence towards their body.
