In Afighanistan, they practice a pastime not unheard of to Americans. Dog Fighting. While in America our basic values such as caring for others as if they were our family, and treating everyone equally is no small thing. We even take these courtesy’s so far as to extend them into animal rights and activism. Because of our cultures compassion for animals we have many laws that reflect that and make practices such as dog fighting illegal. NFL player Mike Vick who was sentenced to years in prison for a dog fighting ring is proof of this enough. But in Kabul Afghanistan a more humane and compassionate take is spun on their dog fighting. An eyewitness to the event even goes on to say “In fact, the dog owners are very protective of their animals. After all, owning a fighting dog is an expensive proposition for an Afghan. One dog owner told us that the prices for a fighting dog start at $500 and go as high as $10,000 – a lot of money anywhere, but particularly in Afghanistan.  The owners seemed to care for their dogs and treated them with respect.” While from the American perspective these practices and cruel, the Afghani culture goes about a different way showing the same values we show but through the art of classy dog fighting.
