Texan Pastor Encourages Congregation to Have Sex 

On January 13, 2012 CNN.com reported a story on a pastor and his wife’s weekend sexperiment. Pastor Ed Young’s sexperiment entails a “bed-in” on the church rooftop for 24 hours with his wife Lisa Young. The purpose of them doing this is to “illustrate that sex begins in heaven.” When people think of Texas there is an automatic view of conservatism, but this pastor encourages his congregation to have as much sex as possible. In their book “Sexperiment: 7 Days to Lasting Intimacy with Your Spouse” the Young’s encourage not only the congregation but also others to have sex everyday for a week. The believe that doing this will “married couples will gain a greater sense of purpose for their lives together, and gain a deeper understanding of God's plan for their marriage, among other things.” During their “bed-in” they plan to give interviews via Skype to communicate with other pastors and friends.

The Young’s believe that the church does not speak about sex and that it should not be made so Taboo because God was not bashful about it so why should they be. They say that, “It’s time to put the bed back in church and God back in the bed because God is the one that thought sex up." Surely the Texan community is not pleased because this does not fall under their usual social Norms. As for the Young’ s they say, “No curtains will be needed for this weekend’s bed-in.”
