Dean who faked college degree

At the university of Pennsylvania, Doug Lynch, clammed to have a PhD when he became vice dean of the prestigious college. Doug claimed to have a masters and doctorate degree when taking the job last year. Many questions were asked and Lynch was investigated. It was found out that he did not receive his masters when he said he did and he has not yet completed his doctorate. Despite the lies, the school decided to keep this man working for their school. They obviously did not take his crime seriously. If I had a man that was supposed to be heading the school and found out he was lying all along, I certainly would not want him to be in charge of all things in the school. Finally, the school moved Lynch to an administrator until more investigations were carried out then eventually put him on leave. While other things were being looked into, Lynch eventually resigned all on his own.

Earthquake Predictability

Earthquakes are a cause of natural happenings that cannot be prevented. It is one of many other natural disasters that can happen. Just a few days ago, on April 11, Indonesia experienced a hard and extreme shaking of the Earth, and thus caused great fear of a possible tsunami. As many may recall, Indonesia is the location that experienced a massive tsunami in the year 2004 just around the days of Christmas. Therefore, this new earthquake caused a great quantity of worried Indonesians. With natural disasters being so uncontrollable, the human species has been able to discover a way to better help those who are in danger. Through technology  and new inventions, we are able to detect earthquakes and other natural disasters before they occur, thus preventing a lot of damage. We are also able to see their intensity, and further understand them.

Project Glass



Technology is changing ever so quickly. Almost over night. New advances lead to new devices which leads to new knowledge and it all effects the way we live. Google labs came out with the first look at their new project glass. Release of this new information has hit the news like crazy. Everybody is hearing and raving about the new glasses. Although they are not going to be sold to public anytime soon, consumers are judging the new invention. Project glass will combine Siri, your cell phone, and your sunglasses. You cell phone screen will be there when you want it and not when you don't. They did this buy creating the one sided glasses. Google has released images and information about the prototype to get feed back from consumers. So don't be shocked if you see people walking the streets with this futuristic looking device hooked to their face, they are just trying to fit into the new craze.

Boy Sells Kidney for iPad and iPhone

Technology is an advancement quite new for this generation but how much technology is too much? and is having the latest craze worth giving up a kidney? The New York post reported that a teenager in Beijing, China sold his kidney for an unlawful transplant operation to get money to be able to buy and Apple iPhone and iPad. It was reported, “The 17-year-old boy, who was paid 22,000 Yuan ($3,500)[for his kidney], was recruited from an online chat room and [because of an illicit transplant operation he] is now suffering from kidney failure and in deteriorating health.” Wang, the 17-year-old boy went through with the kidney transplant without his parents consent. The New Your Post reports that, “A surgeon and four others have been arrested and are facing charges of illegal organ trading and intentional injury…One of those detained was a hard-up gambler identified as He Wei, who acted as a middle-man between a hospital worker and the teenager.” This situation is not unheard of the health ministry stats show that “1.5 million people in China need transplants, but only around 10,000 transplants are performed annually.” Because of this there has been an inconspicuous thriving organ market.

Jet Crash

In Virginia,  an apartment complex was struck by a jet plane. During a training session, the plane had a malfunction that caused it to crash. There were no casualties, just a few people were hospitalized. Luckily, the plane had disposed of the fuel so there was not an explosion. This goes to show that despite of all the advances in technology things can still go wrong even with the electrical testing. Fortunately, the military influenced neighborhood is understanding of such errors and do not blame the aviators for the crash. However, panic still struck them no matter how accustomed they are to the jet planes. Many were fearful at how close the plane passed by their house and are making plans to move away from the flying pathway.

Youtube Goes 3D!

As we all know technology is constantly advancing.  With that said, the Los Angeles Times is reporting that Youtube videos will now be available in 3D! That’s right, with just a click of a button  you can enjoy watching your favorite Youtube video in 3D anywhere. According to Los Angeles Times, “…you don't have to do anything but click a button to get to see a 3D version of an HD video on the site.”  So does this mean that we have to run to Best Buy to get our pair of 3D glasses or steal a pair from the theater after watching Titanic (of course we won’t do this right?)? Not necessarily. For viewing without 3D glasses, there is an options menu for different displays for a variety of viewing techniques.  The viewing techniques include cross-eyed, parallel and mirror split. In addition, video creators than can easily covert their videos into 3D by just following just a few simple steps.

Are Kim and Kanye West dating?

Rumors have it that Kanye West and Kim Kardashian  are dating. In a recent interview by Todays Show she stated, " But as I've said before, Kanye and I have been friends for years." But still keeps us wondering and it wasn't a straight answer. The two were seen leaving together after seeing " The Hunger Games" and also Kim was seen leaving the building where Kanye West's lives, wearing the same clothings as the night before. This can shows that something might be going on between the two of them and she is keeping the public from knowing. Furthermore, she stated, " Anyone that knows me knows that I love really hard, I fall really hard, and I followed my heart."  Perhaps the two are dating, there are many evidence that can support that claim but for now they are just "friends".

Watch Out! "Zombie Guns" Might be Coming!

Zombies might be leaving our big and small screens to join our reality through the work of Russian scientists. All the new technology that has been developed over the years has apparently led Russian military scientists to the idea that they can produce a “zombie gun”. This would be a new “weapon that could theoretically render an individual pliable, or even drive them insane by directly attacking the brain”. Scientists are producing it, but who came up with the idea? It was none other than a pledge from Russian president Vladimir Putin. Why go through this development? Nothing has really been officially said except that he believes it can be used “for achieving political and strategic goals”.

Although he seems content with the possible outcomes that will favor him and his plans, there are quite a few worldwide downfalls that I can think of. The Walking Dead is a great show, quite a few people love to watch it; but, will they feel the same way once there is a possibility of them being in the same situations? I really doubt they will be thrilled. This news can cause an outbreak of panic and anxiety throughout the world. Let’s not forget about a consequence that panic leads to in other countries—war. I’m not saying anything will get to that point and hopefully not, because we don’t really need to be putting more lives in danger with wars. But wouldn’t each country want to fight for their safety after hearing President Putin say he would use the mentioned “zombie gun” for “political goals”? What should we expect with this release of informations?

What is Pinterest?

As many of you may or may not know, Pinterest is the social-networking site that allows its users to “pin” pictures or information from the internet onto “virtual boards.” Other users are able to comment and share their thoughts about what catches their attention about other pins. About six months ago, it was not really known, but now it is the top third social-network site after Facebook and Twitter. 

From fashion to DIY crafts and from home decor to different foods, anything can be pinned onto the user’s board. It is a cool, interesting site where you may like products you may want to purchase or where you may acquire ideas for your own projects. It gives users opportunities to learn about different interests and as Pinterest’s mission states; to “connect everyone in the world through the ‘things’ they find interesting.” Check it out.

Forbidden Love

The Bosnian War was a time that had brought tears to many families who lost children, husbands, and other family members that are still remembered today. For two families, their children who are considered the Romeo and Juliet of their time. It has been 20 years since they were shot to death which has forever scarred  the families for years now.

Bosko and Amira were sweethearts despite the fact that Bosko was Serbian and Amira was Muslim. They were together for nine years until they were shot to death both at the age of 25. Bosko and Amira tried to escape the war that had been plaguing the country for a while but because of the ethnic-religious hatred that was between the country. Their bodies were left behind with both of them wrapped around their arms for eight days.

The parents of Bosko and Amira realize that what was done was done to their children. Fortunately, they still remain friends despite having different backgrounds. The parents feel that the politicians are to blame, not the soldiers who killed them. Today they are buried together and remembered today as the Romeo and Juliet of Bosnia.

Protest at Santa Monica College

In this article it talks about how a crowd of protesting students were out in front of a library at the Santa Monica College on Tusday April 3, 2012 because of the increased of tuitions. Many students were very upset at the fact that the tuition was begining  to cost more all for just one class a semester. For example, lets say there was only one sociology class for the whole semester and many students are trying to fight and get into that class and the cost is a lot just for that one class. That is the conflict to this article and the reason why many students rioted and protested. Also during this incident a mob of officers stormed and started telling and yelling at students to leave campus and began spraying pepper spray in students eyes.

Here is a photo of one of the student who had gotten pepper sprayed in the eyes and someone helping him by poring milk into his eyes to ease the pain.
This article was a shock to me because I feel that those student should have the right to say that because of tuition being ridiculosly high all for to take one class that is only opened for the entre semester. I am not saying rioting or protesting is good ,however, we as college students have the right to say what is right and what is not right. This incident was insane and got many peoples attention including board members from the Santa Monica College and many more.  Maybe there will be a change, may not be this very second, but hopefully in the future for many colleges and a change for tuitions.

A Scare in Society

On Thursday April 5, 2012 an article posted by Maria L. La Ganga and Victoria Kim confirms the recent rumor of a shooting that occurred in Oakland, California. On Monday April 2, 2012 One L. Goh, a 43 year old South Korean native, confessed to kidnapping a woman and firing several bullets at people before escaping the scene using one of the victims vehicles. Panic was the initial reaction to the shootings at school, but police were quick to resolve the issue. The reactions of all the witnesses and people involved in the event would be labeled as collective behavior, because everyone reacted to the same stimuli in a spontaneous and unstructured manner. The shooter was a former nursing student at Oikos University until he decided to leave the school in November of last year. Goh claims he went back to the school to get some of the tuition money he had paid for his schooling back. When he was unable to find one of the employees, he started shooting students and a secretary. Tragic events, such as school shootings, can have a very negative effect on individuals perceptions of society and have led to a great deal of social change.
