Egyptian Protesters Press Their Demand for End to Military Rule
Currently in Cairo, Egypt thousands of protesters are flooding in from all across the country in order to voice their objection to the “temporary” establishment of a military power. Egyptians are actively protesting and demanding power be transferred from the Supreme Council of Armed Forces to a civilian run government. This final transfer of power would complete the Egyptian revolution after the fall of former President Hosni Mubarak. From a sociological perspective Egyptian citizens are actively working towards liberation; attempting to replace decades of oppression with a more democratic approach to government. This LA Times article is clearly exhibiting different types of applied sociology, on a number of levels. The Egyptian protesters is a clear example of a social structure that often takes place in human society. Throughout history, citizens have often united and fought against oppressive and overruling governments. The Egyptians will continue to hold their demands for a more democratic and civilian oriented government, a theme that is very familiar to the human race and most likely something we will continue to see as the human race continues to evolve.
